This float pattern was developed after working with top river anglers such as RiverFest 2019 champion Ian Ward, Stu Harford, and Brian Rigby. We all agreed that we needed much larger stick floats than wed been using previously for big fish approaches on certain days.
We began by experimenting with floats as small as 6g in conjunction with olivettes, which worked well, but we quickly realised that larger versions were required for better control. The addition of 8g and 10g sizes provided us with the full range we desired.
Mega Sticks should always be used with an olivette. We recommend the In-Line type, which is locked onto the line with shot.
Use a large olivette with no dropper shot for large baits such as luncheon meat, corn, and bread.
Use a smaller olivette around 6g to 8g with a string of No4 shots underneath for bunches of maggots or casters. This will allow you to present the hookbait to species such as chub and big roach more effectively.
